Juric: Kamaldeen Sulemana Has Potential, But Is Still a Work in Progress

Atalanta head coach Ivan Juric says new Ghanaian signing Kamaldeen Sulemana is a promising talent with room to grow, following his debut appearance in a preseason friendly against the club’s U-23 side.

The 22-year-old winger, who joined the Serie A side from Southampton on a long-term deal, featured in the warm-up fixture as part of his integration into the team. While not yet the finished product, Juric believes Sulemana has the right tools and mentality to succeed.

“Today, he showed some good things—acceleration and shots,” the Atalanta boss said. “In my opinion, he is a guy who needs to be developed. He is not a finished player, but he really wants to grow.”

Sulemana’s arrival is seen as part of a broader strategy to reinforce Atalanta’s attack amid uncertainty surrounding the future of star forward Ademola Lookman, who has attracted interest from Inter Milan.

The former Stade Rennes player is being groomed as a potential replacement and is expected to play a significant role in the upcoming season.

Atalanta will open their 2025/26 Serie A campaign on August 24 with a home fixture against newly-promoted Pisa.
