The Indian government has announced a special initiative granting Ghanaian nationals who have overstayed in the country an opportunity to exit without financial penalties.
This was contained in a statement issued to Ghana’s High Commission in India on March 16, 2026.
Under the arrangement, an Expedited Exit Permit (EEP) will be issued to eligible individuals, allowing them to regularise their departure process. The initiative is valid from March 1 to May 31, 2026.

The offer applies strictly to individuals who are not involved in any criminal activity and are not standing trial in any court in India.
Applicants are required to provide valid travel documents and a confirmed travel ticket and submit their applications through the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) portal.
Authorities say the initiative is aimed at facilitating a smooth, lawful, and penalty-free exit process for affected individuals.
Ghanaian nationals in India who fall within this category are being encouraged to take advantage of the window to avoid future immigration complications.
