A helicopter flying the Accra–Obuasi route has been reduced to ashes after crashing into a tree at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region on the morning of Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
The aircraft, which reportedly makes the journey to Obuasi every Wednesday, went down under yet-to-be-determined circumstances. Witnesses described a sudden, deafening impact followed by an eerie silence before flames engulfed the wreckage.
Assembly Member for the area, Matthew Baah, told Adom FM’s Kasiebo Is Tasty that he was working on his farm when he received a distress call about the crash.

“After the crash, everything went silent. Residents who rushed to the scene found the helicopter in flames,” Mr. Baah recounted.
Preliminary reports suggest that four dismembered bodies were initially spotted at the site. However, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) later confirmed in a statement that the helicopter had three crew members and five passengers on board. The occupants were reportedly en route to an event in Obuasi.
The crash site was marked by intense fire damage, with the helicopter completely burned beyond recognition. Recovery efforts have been hampered by the extent of the blaze, and authorities are working to formally identify the victims.
While investigations into the cause of the accident are underway, Mr. Baah noted that poor weather conditions in the area may have played a role.
The GAF also disclosed that the helicopter had gone missing from its radar before the crash was reported. Aviation safety officials and military investigators are now on-site to secure evidence and determine what led to the fatal incident.
