President John Dramani Mahama has addressed public concerns regarding the proposed Hajj Village, clarifying that the facility, currently under construction, will not be exclusively for pilgrims travelling to Mecca.
Instead, it will also function as a transit facility for passengers passing through the Kotoka International Airport.
Speaking to critics who questioned the relevance and timing of the project amid ongoing economic challenges, President Mahama emphasised that the Hajj Village is intended to enhance the transit experience for all travellers, not just Hajj pilgrims.

“The facility aligns with our broader goal of ensuring fairness in national policies and making sure that all citizens, regardless of their financial status, can fulfil their spiritual obligations. For years, Ghanaian pilgrims have faced harsh accommodation conditions and physical difficulties before embarking on the holy journey,” the president stated.
He added that the Ghana Airport Company, under the Reset Agenda, is constructing the transit terminal to serve as a Hajj village during the Hajj period and function as a comfortable transit centre for all departing passengers afterwards.
“The transit facility will be available after the Hajj period for other passengers in transit through Kotoka International Airport,” he clarified.
The president’s remarks aim to address public scepticism about the project, reassuring Ghanaians that the Hajj Village is part of a comprehensive strategy to improve airport services and cater to the needs of all travellers, not just pilgrims.
