Ghana has finalised a major telecom milestone after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on free roaming with Burkina Faso, ensuring that mobile subscribers can now travel between the two countries without incurring additional roaming charges.
The agreement, signed on November 21, 2025, between Ghana’s National Communications Authority (NCA) and Burkina Faso’s Autorité de Régulation des Communications Électroniques et des Postes (ARCEP), took place during the Digital Week event in Ouagadougou, where Ghana was honoured as the Guest of Honour.
The MoU sets out a comprehensive technical and regulatory framework that will allow seamless mobile communication across both nations. Under the arrangement, travellers will be able to make calls, send text messages, and use mobile data at no extra cost beyond their local tariffs.

The NCA announced that with this agreement, Ghana has now successfully concluded free roaming arrangements with all of its neighbouring countries—an achievement expected to significantly enhance regional integration, trade, and mobility across West Africa.
The agreement forms part of ongoing efforts under the ECOWAS Free Roaming Initiative, which seeks to eliminate roaming barriers and promote affordable cross-border mobile services across the sub-region.
