Floating Voters Association Condemns Vandalism in Parliament, Calls for Accountability

The Floating Voters Association of Ghana has expressed strong disapproval of the recent acts of vandalism within the premises of Parliament, describing them as a serious threat to the country’s democratic values.

In a statement signed by the association’s Communication Officer, Mr. Donald Dzamesi, the group assiduously condemned the destruction of public property during a heated parliamentary session.

The incident, which unfolded in the presence of some eminent chiefs, has sparked national outrage and intensified concerns over the state of political discourse among elected officials.

“As voters, we strongly condemn the acts of vandalism, labelling them as detrimental to the democratic process and a poor reflection of the nation’s political maturity,” the statement read.

The association further called on relevant authorities to take decisive action against those responsible, arguing that mere suspensions by the Speaker of Parliament were insufficient.

“Suspending the culprits by the Speaker of Parliament is not enough; they must be brought to the confrontation of the laws of the country,” Mr. Dzamesi stated, emphasising the need for strict enforcement of legal consequences to deter future occurrences.

The recent events have fuelled widespread calls from civil society groups and concerned citizens for greater accountability and reforms within Ghana’s legislative space. Many argue that such violent outbursts undermine public confidence in the nation’s democratic institutions and set a dangerous precedent for political engagement.

As the country gears up for future elections, the association reiterated its commitment to advocating for a political culture built on accountability, civility, and respect for national institutions.
