A five-year-old boy, Yaw Emmanuel, tragically lost his life on Sunday afternoon at Akyem Batabi, near Oda in the Eastern Region, after a weakened mud-wall bathroom collapsed and buried him alive.
The incident occurred while the kindergarten pupil of Batabi Presbyterian Basic School was playing with friends near the family’s home.
According to eyewitnesses, the children were walking behind the bathroom structure when its rain-weakened wall suddenly gave way, trapping the young boy beneath.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, the boy’s distraught father, Kwadwo Fosu, recounted the heartbreaking moment he received news of the incident.
“My son was playing with his friends a short distance from the house when one of them ran over to tell me that a wall had fallen on him,” Mr. Fosu said.
He said he rushed to the scene and, with the help of neighbours, managed to pull his son’s lifeless body from under the debris.
The body has since been deposited at the Oda Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
