The Minister of Energy, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, has conducted an inspection tour of the Tema Harbour to assess the status of approximately 2,500 containers procured by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), which have remained uncleared at the port.
The containers, containing essential materials purchased under the previous administration, have incurred demurrage charges amounting to a staggering GHS 1.5 billion, highlighting serious lapses in resource management and coordination between agencies.
Hon. Jinapor expressed deep concern over the situation, calling it unacceptable and underscoring the Ministry’s commitment to addressing inefficiencies within the energy sector.
He emphasised the urgency of clearing the containers to avoid further financial losses and ensure the smooth execution of critical energy projects for the benefit of Ghanaians.
The minister reassured the public that immediate steps would be taken to resolve the issue, with a focus on preventing such occurrences in the future.
He stressed the importance of efficient management of public resources to support the nation’s development goals.
