Ecobank Discontinues U.S. Visa Fee Collection, Foreign Draft And Other Services
Ecobank Ghana has announced the discontinuation of six services, including passport form sales, DVLA cash collections and U.S. visa fee collection.
In a notice to customers, the bank said the changes form part of its “ongoing efforts to streamline our services".
The other services being discontinued are offshore cheque clearing, foreign draft issuance and safe custody services.
Ecobank said customers affected by the changes would be guided towards alternative solutions where available, adding that its team remains available to provide further assistance through its customer service channels and branches.
The move means customers who previously relied on Ecobank branches for some government-related payments, travel-related transactions and other specialised banking services may now have to use alternative providers or platforms.
The discontinuation also reflects a broader shift in banking towards concentrating resources on core financial services and digital delivery channels. Ecobank continues to offer customers services through its mobile and internet banking platforms, alongside other payment and transfer solutions.
The development matters for Ghana’s banking sector because it highlights the changing role of bank branches and the growing focus on services that can be delivered more efficiently through digital platforms or specialised third-party providers.
While Ecobank has not stated when the discontinued services will cease to be available in the notice, affected customers are being advised to contact the bank on 080003225 or visit the nearest branch for information on alternative arrangements.
