The court, presided over by Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah, granted Gyimah bail set at GHC 50,000 with three sureties, along with a condition to report to the police weekly.

The case was adjourned to February 4, 2025.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Benjamin Kofi Baafi, presenting the prosecution’s case, revealed that the first complainant, John Foley, a journalist, resides in Sakumono along with the second complainant, Andy Ababio, a banker, and the third complainant, Vida Akwei Naadude.

On August 5, 2024, Foley discovered that his iPhone 14 Pro Max was missing from his bedroom, and his window had been tampered with. CCTV footage from his home showed Gyimah entering the property and committing the theft.

Foley reported the incident to the police and shared the footage on a community WhatsApp group, prompting responses from Ababio and Vida, who confirmed similar thefts. Ababio reported the loss of an iPhone 11 and Samsung S22 Ultra, while Vida’s Samsung A5 was stolen.

The police traced the stolen iPhone 14 Pro Max to a shop at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, where it was recovered and retained as evidence. Acting on intelligence, police arrested Gyimah on December 31, 2024, at his hideout in Palladium, Accra.

During interrogation, Gyimah admitted to selling the stolen phones to his accomplice, “Coded.”Efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend the accomplice.

ASP Baafi did not oppose the bail application but requested strict conditions to ensure Gyimah’s appearance in court. The defence counsel, Mr. Kofi Bonney, also advocated for bail, which was granted.

The Sakumono police continue their investigations as the trial progresses
