Ghanaian highlife musician Fameye has sparked a lively debate after boldly declaring that the late highlife legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, is greater than global pop icon Michael Jackson.
In an interview with TV3, Fameye explained that since Lumba’s passing, there have been numerous comparisons between the two music heavyweights — a testament, he said, to the unparalleled impact Lumba had on the Ghanaian and African music scene.
“For me, Lumba is greater than Michael Jackson because every single song he released is relatable and understandable to the ordinary listener,” Fameye asserted.

The “Praise” hitmaker revealed that working with Lumba would have been a career-defining moment for him.
“I don’t think I would have sung again for four years if I had the opportunity to feature Daddy Lumba,” he said. “I actually have a tribute song for him, but I can’t release it because his existing tribute songs alone are enough to listen to.”
Reflecting on the legend’s passing, Fameye said he was not deeply saddened, as he believes Lumba had already made an indelible mark on music.
“I feel he has had a great impact, and I still don’t feel like he is dead, though people are speaking about his death,” he concluded.
