Daddy Lumba Funeral Ruling Brings ‘Great Relief’—Lead Counsel Dominic Kojo Osei

Lead counsel for the defendants in the ongoing Daddy Lumba funeral dispute, Dominic Kojo Osei, says the Accra High Court’s latest ruling clearing the way for the burial of the late music legend on Saturday, December 13, has brought “great relief” to the legal team, the family, and the musician’s fans.

Speaking after the decision was announced, Mr Osei said the ruling ends several weeks of legal tension that had cast a shadow over preparations for the musician’s final journey.

He stressed that extending the litigation would have been emotionally harmful to Daddy Lumba’s children, who are still grieving their father.

“It is not just a relief to me; it is a relief for the fans, a relief for the family, and for the children,” he said. “It is not good that at this time, when your father is deceased, there is still a lot of litigation hovering around him.”

Mr Osei praised the defence team’s efforts in securing the ruling, stating that they had once again demonstrated their competence and commitment to their clients.

According to him, the court’s decision validates their long-standing position that the funeral should not be delayed any further.

“For us the lawyers, it is joy because once again we’ve demonstrated our competence—that when it comes to standing for our clients, we are one of the top notches,” he added.

With the court effectively allowing Transitions Funeral Home to release the body, preparations are now fully underway for the funeral at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Mr Osei called on Ghanaians, especially the millions of fans who have followed Daddy Lumba’s decades-long musical journey, to attend the ceremony and pay their final respects.

“All roads lead to Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium,” he said. “Everybody who loves Daddy Lumba, everybody who can rise above self-interest and greed, should be there. Tomorrow is a test for all who love Daddy Lumba. All of us will be there.”

Saturday’s funeral marks the final chapter in a months-long saga surrounding the burial of one of Ghana’s most influential highlife musicians.
