The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) and the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) have strongly condemned their exclusion from the National Education Forum, describing it as a major setback to inclusive dialogue on Ghana’s education system.
In a joint press statement issued on February 17, 2025, the two religious bodies expressed displeasure over being sidelined from discussions scheduled for February 18-19, 2025, arguing that their absence undermines collaborative efforts in shaping the nation’s educational policies.
“As key stakeholders in education, particularly through our schools, we are perplexed by our omission from discussions pivotal to Ghana’s education future,” the statement read.

The GCBC and CCG have played a historical role in Ghana’s education system, overseeing numerous mission schools and advocating for policies that align with national values and traditions. They argue that their exclusion from the forum undermines efforts to create an equitable, holistic, and values-driven education system.
“Our exclusion from this vital forum undermines the collaborative spirit essential for any successful education reform. The national discourse on education requires input from all stakeholders, including religious bodies, educators, and parents,” the statement added.
The GCBC and CCG have urged the government and the Ministry of Education to reconsider their exclusion and extend an invitation to ensure the forum reflects a truly inclusive national consultation.
