Ayawaso West MCE Highlights Major Infrastructure, Education and Health Projects Across Municipality
The Municipal Chief Executive for the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly, Dr Michael Mensah, has outlined a series of ongoing and completed development projects aimed at transforming the municipality and improving the living conditions of residents.
Speaking on the progress of the assembly since assuming office, Dr Mensah emphasised his administration’s focus on infrastructure development, education, healthcare, sanitation and community engagement as key pillars of growth.
The MCE disclosed that the Assembly has prioritised road construction and rehabilitation projects to address transportation challenges and improve accessibility across communities. He noted that with rapid urbanisation in areas such as Airport Residential and Roman Ridge, upgrading road networks remains critical to sustaining development.
He also stressed the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring that all infrastructure projects comply with planning regulations and safety standards, in collaboration with relevant state agencies.
In the education sector, Dr Mensah revealed that more than 200 tables and chairs have been distributed to basic schools to enhance teaching and learning. Additional interventions include the provision of 250 chairs and over 200 tables for teachers, as well as the construction of new classroom blocks.
Key projects include a 12-unit classroom block at Abelenkpe Basic School and ongoing works at Dzorwulu Junior High School and La Bawalashie.
The Assembly has also supported vulnerable groups through donations of equipment such as deep freezers, laptops, industrial knitting machines and gas cylinders to persons with disabilities. Sanitary pads have also been distributed to schoolgirls to promote hygiene and school attendance.
On healthcare delivery, the MCE announced the commencement of a 12-unit clinic project at Shiashie, describing it as a significant step toward improving access to quality health services within the municipality.
Sanitation interventions have also been intensified, including the procurement of refuse containers and the commissioning of a 12-seater toilet facility at Okonglo and a 14-seater facility at Abelenkpe Basic School.
Additionally, 13 mechanised boreholes have been drilled across electoral areas to improve access to clean water.
Dr Mensah highlighted several legacy projects completed under his administration, including pavement works at Abelenkpe Basic School and Atrakpo, as well as the development of a chip compound at Santana Electoral Area.
He further noted that environmental sustainability remains a priority, with tree-planting exercises undertaken across the municipality to promote greener communities.
The MCE underscored the importance of community participation in governance, noting that the Assembly regularly engages residents to identify challenges and incorporate their input into development planning.
He assured residents that despite financial constraints, the Assembly remains committed to delivering sustainable projects under its Medium-Term Development Plan, with a strong focus on sanitation, security, infrastructure and environmental management.
Dr Mensah also commended the support of government officials, the Member of Parliament, coordinating directors, assembly members and other stakeholders, stressing that collective effort is essential to building a cleaner, safer and more prosperous municipality.
He described the Ayawaso West Constituency as one of the best-performing areas in terms of development projects, expressing confidence that ongoing initiatives will continue to drive progress and improve livelihoods.
