President John Dramani Mahama has announced interim ministerial appointments to fill the void left by the tragic deaths of two cabinet ministers in Wednesday’s military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.
In a statement released by Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the president directed Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson to assume additional responsibilities as Minister for Defence, effective immediately.
Additionally, Lands and Natural Resources Minister Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah has been asked to serve as acting Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology, pending further notice.

The temporary reassignments come after the deaths of Defense Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who were among eight individuals killed in the military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, in the Adansi Akrofuom District.
The delegation was en route to Obuasi for an official assignment when the crash occurred.
The President’s decision is aimed at maintaining continuity and stability within key sectors of national governance, particularly as the nation grapples with the sudden loss of high-ranking officials.
National flags continue to fly at half-mast across the country as Ghana enters a period of mourning. A formal investigation into the cause of the crash is currently underway, spearheaded by the Ghana Armed Forces and relevant agencies.
President Mahama is expected to lead a state tribute in honor of the fallen officials in the coming days, as funeral planning efforts intensify.
