Ama Brone’s Descendants Disassociate Kubease Royal Family from Kwahu Chieftaincy Dispute

The royal descendants of Ama Brone of the Kubease Royal Family in Kwahu have formally disassociated themselves from the ongoing chieftaincy disputes involving the current Kwahu Paramount Chief, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, and the former paramount chief, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, known in private life as Eugene Kwasi Boadi.

The Kubease Royal Family, regarded as one of the principal custodians of the Kwahu Paramount Stool, made their position clear at a press conference held at the palace of the Kwahu Abene Adehyiehene. The family stressed that they should not be linked to the disputes surrounding Eugene Kwasi Boadi, whom they insist is not a member of the Kubease Royal lineage.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Abusuapanin Yaw Amo of the Ama Brone Kubease Royal Family appealed to the kingmakers of Kwahu Abene and the entire traditional council of Kwahu to desist from associating the Kubease Royal Family with issues relating to Eugene Kwasi Boadi.

According to him, the family had long made its position known, including through a public notice published in a national daily on Thursday, October 12, 2023. In that publication, the family challenged the authority of the former paramount chief to organise the final funeral rites of his predecessor, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng II, and questioned his inclusiveness toward the Kubease Royal Family. However, he said their concerns were ignored by the kingmakers at the time.

Abusuapanin Yaw Amo stated that the Kubease Royal Family has “nothing to do with Eugene Kwasi Boadi,” adding that this fact is well known to the kingmakers and Kwahu chiefs who enstooled him. He therefore urged traditional authorities to exclude the family’s name whenever matters concerning Eugene Kwasi Boadi are discussed.

Also addressing the press conference, the Kubeasehene of Kwahu, Nana Ottupre Kwadgyan, recounted an alleged abduction he suffered in October 2023. He claimed that on Monday, October 16, 2023, he was forcibly taken from his residence by six well-built men and sent to the Abene Palace, allegedly on the instructions of Eugene Kwasi Boadi.

According to Nana Ottupre Kwadgyan, the incident followed his public opposition to the installation of Eugene Kwasi Boadi as Kwahumanhene, which he described as being in bad faith and contrary to Kwahu tradition and custom. He said it took the intervention of the Ghana Police Service to secure his release, adding that a police report on the incident exists.

The Kubeasehene concluded by affirming that the current Kwahu Paramount Chief, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, is the legitimate occupant of the stool from the Kubease Royal Family, which is a recognised gate of Kwahu Nkwatia.

The Ama Brone descendants reiterated their call for peace and respect for tradition, urging all stakeholders to uphold customary procedures and refrain from actions that could further deepen divisions within Kwahu.
