All 18 Volta Constituencies Have One Million Coders Centres – Sam George

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, has disclosed that all 18 constituencies in the Volta Region have centres designated for the government’s One Million Coders Programme (OMCP).

The minister made the disclosure during a courtesy call with the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, at the beginning of a two-day working tour of the region.

He said the visit would include inspections of selected Community Information Centres (CICs), which serve as learning centres for the programme aimed at equipping Ghanaians with digital skills.

According to Mr George, although he would have wished to visit all 18 centres during the tour, time constraints meant that only a few would be selected for inspection.

“I know that there are 18 constituencies in the Volta Region. We have a centre in each of the 18. I wish I could visit all the 18, but we’ll pick a few of them and visit in the course of our tour today,” he said.

The minister is expected to visit the Ho CIC and the Silverstone Youth ICT Lab in Agortime Ziope as part of the exercise.

The inspections are intended to give him first-hand information on the state of the centres and how they are supporting the delivery of digital skills training.

The tour also forms part of a wider nationwide exercise to assess facilities and projects under the ministry, including rural telephony infrastructure and telecommunications network upgrades.

Mr George said the government was committed to expanding digital opportunities while addressing connectivity challenges that could affect access to such programmes.

His visit to the Volta Region follows similar inspections in other parts of the country as the ministry assesses the implementation of its digital development initiatives.
