AK47-wielding National Security operatives raided my house in 2017 – John Jinapor recounts harrowing ordeal
Minister of Energy and Member of Parliament for Yapei Kusawgu, John Jinapor, has revealed that his home was raided in 2017 by heavily armed national security operatives wielding AK-47 rifles.
The raid, which was part of investigations into the Ameri deal, left his family, particularly his six-year-old child, traumatised.
Jinapor made this revelation while contributing to a parliamentary debate on the recent military raid on the residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta. The February 11 operation, conducted by unidentified men in military uniform, has ignited widespread controversy and raised concerns over political persecution. The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has since declared Ofori-Atta a wanted person.

Recounting his own experience, Jinapor stated, “On that fateful day, my house was stormed by AK-47-wielding national security operatives. They banged on my door, creating fear and panic, sending my six-year-old child into a state of hysteria. Despite this, many in Parliament remained silent.
However, I commend Prof. Mike Oquaye for standing up and ruling that the raid was inappropriate. They seized my phone and laptop and even took me to the UK for further investigations.”
He further weighed in on Ofori-Atta’s situation, maintaining that public officials should not evade accountability. “The OSP has declared Ofori-Atta a fugitive. As a public official, I had my laptop seized; they couldn’t even unlock my iPhone. I offered to use my fingerprint, but they informed me the device had been sent to the UK, and I had to provide the password. On this day of accountability, we wish the ‘Man in White’ the best of luck.”
Earlier, Tolon MP Habib Iddrisu expressed deep concerns over the government’s actions, stating, “The steps taken by the OSP and the government are alarming. We must ensure accountability and transparency while preventing the misuse of state power.”
Ofori-Atta is wanted by the OSP in connection with multiple investigations, including the ECG-Beijing Jao contract, the National Cathedral procurement, contracts awarded by the Health Ministry, and the SML-GRA deal. The OSP has vowed to take all necessary measures to compel him to appear before investigators.
During a press briefing on February 12, 2025, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng underscored that Ofori-Atta had repeatedly refused invitations for questioning. “Consequently, the OSP declares Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta a wanted person. He is a fugitive from the law,” Agyebeng announced.
In response, Ofori-Atta’s legal team clarified that their client had been out of Ghana for medical reasons. They expressed willingness to cooperate with investigations but requested that any in-person meetings be rescheduled upon his return.
