The race for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidacy has entered a decisive stage as the five flagbearer aspirants balloted for positions on the ballot paper ahead of the party’s much-anticipated primary slated for January 31, 2026.
The balloting exercise, held on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the NPP headquarters in Accra, was supervised by party officials and observed by representatives of the various aspirants.
Former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong secured the coveted first spot on the ballot, putting him at the top of the list when delegates head to the polls.

Former Minister for Agriculture Dr Bryan Acheampong picked the second position, while former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, widely regarded as a frontrunner, drew the third slot.
Former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum selected the fourth position, with former General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong completing the line-up in the fifth slot.
The draw comes ahead of what many political observers describe as a crucial internal contest that will shape the future direction of the ruling party as it prepares for the 2026 general elections.
Party General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, in brief remarks after the balloting, urged all aspirants to conduct their campaigns decently and in the spirit of party unity, noting that the exercise marks a key milestone in the party’s democratic process.
The NPP’s flagbearer primary will determine who leads the party into the next presidential election after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo completes his second and final term in office.
