Adwumawura Initiative Targets 40,000 Direct Jobs in 4 years – Julian Mawuse
The NDC government has unveiled a bold plan to support the creation of at least 10,000 youth-led businesses annually under a future John Mahama administration, aimed at tackling youth unemployment and energising Ghana’s private sector.
Julian Mawuse Cobbinah, Chairman of the NDC Youth Manifesto Committee, announced the initiative during an interview on Channel One Newsroom on Sunday, May 4, highlighting its potential to generate thousands of jobs and catalyse economic growth.
“The John Mahama government believes it can help create 10,000 new businesses every year, created by young people,” Cobbinah stated. “If each of these businesses employs 10 people and this is sustained for four years, we are looking at 40,000 businesses creating 400,000 direct jobs.”

Cobbinah underscored that transparency and meritocracy would be central to the programme’s success, warning against politicisation.
“Only deserving and qualified individuals will benefit. We must move away from a system where business support becomes a partisan reward,” he said. “There will be a credible regime and process in the awarding of support.”
The initiative will form a core part of the Adwumawura Programme, which targets young Ghanaians aged 18 to 35, fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and private sector expansion. Cobbinah emphasised that a merit-based system would ensure the right entrepreneurs receive support, enabling sustainable and inclusive growth.
The proposed plan reflects a broader effort by the NDC to present actionable, youth-focused solutions ahead of the December 2024 general elections, where job creation remains a top voter concern.
