$94 MIFF Probe: OSP Raids Dr Sledge’s Trassaco Residence

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has conducted a high-profile search at the Trassaco residence of businessman Nana Yaw Duodu, popularly known as Dr Sledge, as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption and financial losses linked to the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) gold trade programme.

In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the OSP confirmed that the searches—carried out today—were executed under warrants issued by the High Court in Accra. A simultaneous operation was also conducted at the East Legon offices of Goldridge Company Limited, a firm reportedly connected to the gold trade scheme.

According to the OSP, Dr Sledge is being investigated for suspected corruption and corruption-related offences believed to have resulted in a staggering US$94 million loss to the State.

The OSP’s Asset Recovery and Management Team reportedly seized a range of high-value items during the raid, including:

  • Luxury vehicles,
  • Jewellery,
  • Weapons, and
  • Documents related to landed properties.

These items, the statement said, will form part of the evidence in the ongoing investigations into the suspected misappropriation of funds under the MIIF gold trade initiative — a programme intended to boost Ghana’s returns from its mineral resources.

This latest operation signals an intensified crackdown by the OSP on suspected high-level financial crimes in the mining and extractive sector. It comes on the heels of separate investigations into a Council of State member over alleged corruption connected to gold licensing.

The Special Prosecutor’s office, under Kissi Agyebeng, has in recent months ramped up efforts to recover stolen state assets, enforce accountability, and clamp down on opaque dealings within state-linked gold trade operations.

The OSP said further details would be disclosed as investigations progress but emphasised that all actions were being carried out within the remit of the law and with due judicial authorisation.
