MTN Ghana Foundation has awarded 500 scholarships under its flagship Bright Scholarship Scheme for the 2025/2026 academic year, covering tuition, accommodation, stipends, and laptops.
The latest batch comprises 300 undergraduates pursuing STEM and vocational/technical courses and 200 teachers furthering their education in public universities. Beneficiaries were drawn from 42 public institutions, including 187 females, 313 males, and 33 differently abled students.
Since its relaunch in 2018, the initiative has supported over 720 students, in addition to the 1,000 who benefited under MTN’s earlier scheme.

At the presentation ceremony, MTN Ghana CEO Stephen Blewett described the programme as an investment in Ghana’s future:
“Today is not just about awarding scholarships. It’s about investing in dreams, unlocking potential, and securing the future of Ghana. Without education, economies and countries don’t transform. That is why we established the Bright Scholarship—to remove barriers and give brilliant students a fair chance to succeed.”
The scheme has already produced impressive outcomes: 10 valedictorians, 520 first-class graduates, and 94 second-class upper scholars. Alumni are thriving in fields such as medicine, engineering, teaching, and business.
Encouraged by these results, the MTN Ghana Foundation announced plans to scale up the programme to reach 1,500 beneficiaries annually over the next three years, with a stronger focus on STEM, vocational training, and teacher development.
Representing the Minister for Education, Dr Emmanuel Newman commended MTN Ghana for its sustained investment, noting that the scholarship aligns with the government’s vision of driving an innovation-based economy through STEM and vocational education. He also urged MTN to expand coverage to more regions to ensure equity.
One of the recipients, Eugenia Mamele Appiah, expressed heartfelt gratitude:
“I have been chasing this scholarship since my first year, but it didn’t go through. I am grateful that on my third attempt, I finally made it. This will ease my academic journey and help me achieve my dreams.”
The Bright Scholarship continues to stand as one of the most impactful private-sector interventions in Ghana’s education sector, shaping the next generation of leaders and innovators.
