Former Ghana national football team captain Asamoah Gyan has raised concerns about the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s campaign promise to implement a 24-hour economy, questioning the originality of the initiative.
The 24-hour economy policy was one of the central promises made by the NDC during its 2024 campaign, a promise that helped the party secure a decisive victory in the presidential and parliamentary elections.
However, Gyan, speaking during an Instagram Live session on Thursday, expressed scepticism over the practicality and novelty of the policy.
“It already exists. Police stations, hospitals, and filling stations already operate on a 24-hour basis,” Gyan stated, adding that the proposal lacked innovation. “If the government says ‘24-hour economy,’ they should focus on improving it. It’s not a new policy,” he emphasised.
