YEA Refutes Claims of 10-Month Salary Arrears for 300 Staff

The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has dismissed media reports alleging that about 300 of its staff have gone unpaid for the past ten months, describing the claims as inaccurate and misleading.

This follows widespread reports from some personnel across the country demanding the payment of arrears, with others accusing the agency of neglect and frustration. Some reports even alleged that the situation had led to attempted suicides among affected workers.

In a statement signed by Suadique Musah, Director of Corporate Affairs, YEA clarified that all legitimate employees on its approved payroll have been paid consistently from February to September 2025.

“No verified employee has been excluded from salary payments since the assumption of office of the CEO, Mr Malik Basintale, in February 2025,” the statement emphasised.

The Agency explained that a comprehensive staff audit was undertaken earlier this year to safeguard public funds and ensure payroll integrity.

According to the statement, staff whose contracts had expired before the CEO’s appointment were required to reapply, and those whose contracts were renewed have since been reinstated on the payroll.

YEA stressed that the reports suggesting widespread non-payment were unfounded, adding that the agency remains committed to the welfare of its staff and the integrity of its operations.

“Management has not deliberately neglected any employee or failed in its obligations. We are committed to protecting staff interests, ensuring accountability, and delivering on our core mandate to create sustainable employment opportunities for young people across the country,” the statement concluded.
