After seven years and 42 heartfelt rejections, a U.K. man has finally received the answer he’s been waiting for—“Yes.”
Luke Wintrip, a tattoo artist, proposed to his girlfriend Sarah an astonishing 43 times before she accepted. The couple’s story, highlighted by The Sun, has captured hearts for its blend of persistence, love, and patience.
Their journey began in 2018 when Luke first asked Sarah to marry him just six months into their relationship. She promptly turned him down.

“I just said, ‘No, we’ve only been together for six months,’” Sarah, a marketing executive, said. “I loved him, but I didn’t want to say ‘yes’ to something I later retracted.”
But Luke wasn’t deterred. Over the years, he crafted one elaborate proposal after another—renting a castle in Prague, planning horseback rides on Jamaican beaches, and setting up candlelit dinners—all in hopes of hearing that one word.
During his 42nd proposal, Sarah hinted at a change of heart: “Next time you ask, I’m going to say ‘yes,’ but just you wait.”
One year later, at the iconic Prime Meridian in Greenwich, London—where global time is measured—Luke gave it one last shot.
“This is the centre of the world, and you are the centre of the world, and I want you to marry me,” he told her.
Sarah finally said yes.
“He finally won my heart,” she said, smiling. “He should probably get a Guinness World Record. I am grateful he persisted for so long.”
