Why didn’t you interview Ofori-Atta in the US as you did for Mahama’s brother? – NPP quizzes OSP

The National Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has criticised the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, for failing to make extra efforts to interview former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, as he did in the Airbus scandal case.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, questioned why Mr. Agyebeng did not travel to meet Ofori-Atta as he had done in a previous high-profile case.

“Kissi Agyebeng told us in August last year that he travelled all the way to the UK to interview Sam Mahama, John Mahama’s brother, in the Airbus scandal case. So, what stopped him from doing the same for the former minister?” Nana B, asked.

Mr. Agyebeng had previously stated that as part of his investigations into the Airbus corruption scandal involving former President John Mahama and his brother, he personally travelled to the UK to interview Samuel Mahama.

On this basis, Nana B argued, “Just as you travelled to the UK to interview Sam Mahama, what stopped you from doing the same for the former finance minister? What is so urgent that, if you could wait two years before interviewing Sam Mahama, you couldn’t wait a bit longer for Mr. Ofori-Atta?”

His comments come a day after the OSP declared Ofori-Atta a fugitive for allegedly failing to make himself available for questioning regarding suspected corruption cases.

Nana B further described the OSP’s decision as “unreasonable” and argued that labelling Ofori-Atta a fugitive was unjustified. He assured that the former minister had no intention of evading the investigation and would return to Ghana once he had completed his medical treatment in the United States.

He also clarified that before travelling, Ofori-Atta had duly informed both the OSP and the Chief of Staff at the Presidency about his medical trip.

The NPP’s latest comments add to the ongoing controversy surrounding the OSP’s handling of the case, raising questions about consistency and fairness in high-profile investigations.
