“We Didn’t Vote for You to Cry” – Miracles Aboagye Slams Lands Minister

Director of Communications for the 2024 Bawumia Campaign Team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has taken a swipe at the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, for what he described as an “unproductive and helpless display” during a recent press briefing on illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

The minister, visibly emotional at the April 21 briefing, paused mid-speech to wipe away tears as he recounted the destruction caused by galamsey in the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve. He spoke of silenced wildlife, mud-choked streams, and the tragic transformation of Ghana’s lush forests into barren wastelands.

But Miracles Aboagye, speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Tuesday, said the minister’s emotional outburst did not inspire confidence in the government’s ability to tackle the problem.

“Whoever directed the minister to cry did him a disservice,” Aboagye said. “We didn’t vote for you to go and cry. This is a man that stood in Parliament and told the then president to his face that his tenure would be a reminder of how not to govern a country.”

Miracles Aboagye further pointed out the inconsistency between the minister’s previous criticism of the Akufo-Addo administration and his current posture in government.

“He [Armah-Kofi Buah] is the man who said they had the solution to galamsey. The now Communications Minister, Sam George, even claimed that if President Akufo-Addo was serious, he could stop galamsey in one week,” he noted.

“So now, when you’re in power and given the mandate to stop it, and you come and cry, what do we do? It creates a hopeless situation.”
