VRA Denies Ownership of Helicopter Involved in Nkawkaw Emergency Landing

The Volta River Authority (VRA) has refuted media reports linking it to a helicopter that made an emergency landing near the Nkawkaw bypass in the Eastern Region on Monday, August 11.

According to preliminary information, the Jet A-1 aircraft, with registration number 9G-AFW, was en route from Accra to Kumasi when the pilot was forced to land due to poor visibility caused by harsh weather conditions.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 13, VRA clarified that it neither owns the helicopter nor operates any aviation services.

“We would like to state unequivocally that the said helicopter does not belong to VRA, and neither does VRA operate aviation services,” the authority stated.

The authority explained that its checks revealed the aircraft is owned by Volta River Aviation Limited (VRAL), a company registered with the Petroleum Commission.

VRA stressed that its mandate is strictly to provide affordable and reliable electricity to Ghanaians, not to engage in aviation activities.

It also urged the public to disregard the erroneous reports and advised the media to verify such information with its Corporate Affairs and External Relations Department before publication.
