Key Highlights and Policy Context

This year’s awards come at a pivotal time, coinciding with significant government initiatives aimed at fostering growth in Ghana’s fintech ecosystem.

  1. Proposed $50 Million Fintech Growth Fund:
This fund, introduced by the government, seeks to empower local fintech startups by addressing challenges like limited access to capital. According to Mrs. Cristina Swan-Awagah, project coordinator of the awards, this initiative will fuel innovation and support sustained growth in the sector.
  2. Removal of the E-Levy on Digital Transactions:
Widely welcomed by industry players, this move is expected to reduce transaction costs, boost digital financial service adoption, and enhance financial inclusion across the country.

“These initiatives, once fully implemented, will catalyse growth and transformation for Ghana’s fintech space,” Mrs. Swan-Awagah noted.

This year’s theme, “Building Trust in Ghana’s Digital Economy: The Essential Role of Cybersecurity and Data Privacy,” underscores the importance of protecting digital platforms and user data.

“Cybersecurity is no longer optional; it is foundational to building trust and ensuring long-term growth in fintech,” said Mrs. Swan-Awagah.
