VIDEO: UMaT Bans Plaited Hair, Earrings for Male Students From Next Academic Year
The vice chancellor of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa, Prof. Bernard Kumi-Boateng, has announced plans to enforce stricter dressing standards for students from the next academic year.
He expressed concern over changing dressing trends among some students, including male students wearing plaited hair and earrings, as well as female students wearing outfits he described as inappropriate for academic settings.
“Men are now coming to UMaT classes with plaited hair and earrings, and our female students are almost naked. From next academic year you can’t dress that way to class,” Prof. Kumi-Boateng warned.
The vice-chancellor said the university’s move is aimed at promoting discipline, professionalism and an academic environment that reflects the values of the institution.
