Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, was visibly overwhelmed with grief as he lays wreath-laying to the eight victims of the tragic military helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region.
The heart-wrenching moment occurred at the forecourt of Jubilee House during a solemn wreath-laying ceremony held in honor of the departed statesmen and military officers who perished in the national tragedy.
The victims of the crash include the Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna; Vice Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Sarpong; Deputy NADMO Director-General, Samuel Aboagye; and three Ghana Air Force personnel—Squadron Leader Peter Anala, Flying Officer Tsum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo.

Earlier in the day, Hon. Sam George accompanied the First Lady, Her Excellency Lordina Mahama, as she paid her own emotional wreath-laying at the memorial. But in a striking return to the site alone, the minister found himself overtaken by sorrow during his personal moment of reflection.
Hon. George approached the memorial to pay his respects; tears began streaming down his face. As he attempted to deliver his wreath, he was overcome with emotion and began sobbing uncontrollably like a child.
The scene quickly turned somber as aides and security personnel gently escorted him away, visibly shaken and unable to complete his message.
The emotional display highlighted the personal connections and bonds shared among members of government and the military with the departed—many of whom were close friends and longtime colleagues of the minister.
This moving wreath-laying adds to the series of powerful, emotional moments witnessed at the Jubilee House since the start of the national mourning period declared by President John Dramani Mahama. The president has assured Ghanaians of a full, transparent investigation into the crash and has called for unity as the nation mourns its fallen heroes.
A state funeral is scheduled for Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Black Star Square. Memorial events are ongoing, including flower-laying ceremonies, public reflections, and books of condolence opened at several government institutions.
