US Embassy in Ghana Issued 25,000 Visas to Ghanaians in 2024

The United States Embassy in Ghana has revealed that it issued approximately 25,000 visas to Ghanaian applicants in 2024, out of 61,000 total applications received.

The disclosure was made during the Consular Media Day held on Friday, May 9, 2025, an event aimed at demystifying the visa application process, addressing misconceptions, and enhancing public understanding of current U.S. visa policies.

Speaking at the event, U.S. Consular General Elliot Fertik reiterated the Embassy’s commitment to ensuring a fair, efficient, and transparent visa system for Ghanaians seeking to travel for education, business, or tourism.

“We continue to welcome visitors from Ghana who are interested in studying, investing, or doing business in the US,” Fertik said. “Last year, the US Embassy issued 25,000 visas to Ghanaians for work, study, or visiting the US. But with entry to the US, visa applicants or holders must follow our laws.”

Fertik also cautioned prospective travellers against attempting to enter the U.S. through fraudulent means, stressing that immigration rules are strictly enforced.

“The U.S. has zero tolerance for illegal immigrants,” he emphasised. “Those who break the rules will face the law, including visa refusals or outright bans from entering the U.S.”

He advised all applicants to remain honest and transparent throughout the application process, urging Ghanaians to seek reliable information from official sources rather than rely on self-styled “visa contractors” or misinformation.

“We want to make sure Ghanaians understand the proper way of applying for visas and what is expected of them,” Fertik added.

The embassy also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve the visa experience for applicants, including streamlining appointments, enhancing customer service, and providing updated resources to guide applicants.

The Consular Media Day forms part of a broader outreach initiative by the U.S. Mission in Ghana to foster better public understanding of its consular services and strengthen bilateral relations.
