University of Ghana Directs Students With CGPA Below 1.00 To Withdraw
The University of Ghana (UG) has instructed undergraduate students who finished the 2025/2026 academic year with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) below 1.00 to withdraw from their programmes.
The directive was announced in a notice shared on Facebook on Thursday, October 22, by the university’s Academic Affairs Directorate.
According to the Directorate, the decision is guided by Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which sets out the academic standards students must meet to continue their studies.
Under the regulation, undergraduate students are required to maintain a minimum CGPA of 1.00 and meet any additional academic conditions stipulated by their respective schools or departments to progress to the next level.
The Directorate explained that the university’s rules do not provide for academic probation. Students whose CGPAs remain below the required threshold after all grades for their registered courses have been released will therefore be required to leave their programmes.
Affected students have been advised to verify their academic records through the university’s Management Information System (MIS) Web and begin the withdrawal process via the c.
The notice directs students to log in to the STS Portal using their student ID and PIN, then select the “Withdrawal Request” option to submit their applications.
However, the university noted that in some programmes, the relevant school or department will handle the withdrawal process on behalf of students.
Students who need clarification about their academic status or the procedure have been asked to contact their respective college academic offices.
The university also encouraged affected students to seek assistance from its Careers and Counselling Directorate, which provides guidance and support to students navigating academic challenges.
