UCC Level 200 Student Dies In Campus Road Accident

A Level 200 student of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has died following a road accident on campus.

The deceased, Kweku Mensah, a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) student, was involved in the accident on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at about 3:00 p.m.

His death was announced in a press statement issued by the university on Friday, March 6, stating that preliminary information indicates that the student was riding a motorcycle to retrieve his identification card from Oguaa Hall for a scheduled examination.

The motorcycle reportedly collided with an Ayalolo bus along the road between the Amissah-Arthur Language Centre and the Sandwich Lecture Theatre (SWLT), resulting in severe injuries.

Mensah was rushed to the UCC Hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead shortly after attempts to resuscitate him failed.

The university said the matter had been reported to the UCC police and the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) for investigation.

The body has been deposited at the UCC mortuary pending further procedures, while the family of the deceased has been duly informed.

Management of the university expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and urged members of the university community to remain calm as investigations into the incident continue.

The university added that further updates would be provided in due course.
