Two Sentenced to 10 Years Imprisonment for Burglary and Firearm Possession in Kumasi

The Asante Akropong Circuit Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District has sentenced two men to 10 years imprisonment each for their involvement in burglary, firearm possession, and theft at Sokoban, a suburb of Kumasi.

Charles Antwi, alias Kojo Fosu, 49, a carpenter, and Francis Abobi, alias Seaman, 41, a farmer, were convicted after pleading guilty to the charges. The court proceedings were presided over by Mrs. Gloria Mensah Bonsu.

According to the prosecution, led by Police Detective Inspector Kwame Boakye Agyemang, the case began when Ama Boakyewaa Asomani, a teacher at Kumasi Suame-Anomangye, reported a burglary at her home in Sokoban Ampabame.

The incident took place on January 28, 2025, when Asomani returned to find the door of her residence damaged and several valuables stolen. Among the stolen items were a 42-inch television set valued at GHS 7,800, a Samsung ‘A’ 52 series smartphone worth GHS 3,500, and a CCTV hard drive.

Following the report, the Ashanti Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) launched an investigation. This led to the arrest of Antwi and Abobi at their hideout in Effiduase-Asamang in the Sekyere East District.

A subsequent search of the convicts revealed several items, including one cutlass, a pinch bar, a glass cutter, two pliers, two pistols, a cartridge, and three smartphones. These items were confiscated as evidence.

In their caution statement, the two men confessed to the crime. They were subsequently charged with conspiracy, possession of firearms without authority, causing damage, and stealing. After their conviction, the court sentenced both men to 10 years in prison.

This sentencing serves as a reminder of the severe consequences for crimes involving firearms and burglary, reinforcing the importance of law enforcement in protecting citizens and their property.
