Reports from Citi News indicate that the attack, which resulted in the deaths of two passengers, remains shrouded in mystery. While the exact motive behind the attack is still unclear, there are growing concerns that the incident may be connected to the ongoing Bawku conflict.
This longstanding ethnic and political dispute in the region has escalated over the past years, claiming the lives of over 50 individuals to date.
The February 13 attack is the second such deadly incident within a short span. Just two days earlier, on February 11, 2025, another bus was ambushed near Wulugu on the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway.
In that attack, three passengers were killed, and the bus was similarly set on fire.
The violence and uncertainty surrounding these attacks have raised alarm among residents and travellers in the region. With tensions already running high due to the Bawku conflict, these attacks are heightening fears for the safety of both locals and visitors travelling through northern Ghana.
Authorities have yet to confirm the full details of the incidents, and investigations are ongoing to identify the perpetrators and determine the exact cause of the attacks.
However, the frequency of such deadly ambushes has prompted calls for increased security in the region to protect citizens and ensure safe passage for travellers.
