Techiman Central Market Fire Destroys Over 100 Stalls, Millions Lost

The inferno, which began around 9:15 PM, wiped out goods worth millions of cedis, with firefighters struggling to control the blaze.

Eyewitnesses decried the inadequate firefighting resources in the metropolitan area. “A whole metropolitan area like Techiman has just one fire tender. If we had two or three, this fire could have been controlled earlier,” said a distraught trader.

Victims lamented their losses, with one trader tearfully appealing for help: “All the money I used to purchase these items was from the bank. Now everything is gone. How will I survive?”

Bono East Regional Fire Commander ACFO II Naomi Ofori Adubea Sarpong revealed that the congested layout of the market posed challenges to containment efforts.

“In all, about six fire tenders, including those from Nkoranza, Kintampo, and Wenchi, were deployed to manage the situation,” she stated.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, with officials urging the public to remain vigilant and take precautions during the dry season.

The incident has left many traders appealing for urgent government intervention to help rebuild their livelihoods.
