Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Alhassan Tampuli, and Jerry Ahmed Shaib Suspended Over Vetting Chaos

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has suspended four Members of Parliament (MPs) for their involvement in the chaos that erupted during the Appointments Committee vetting on Thursday, January 30, 2025.

The affected MPs are:

  • Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor (South Dayi MP)
  • Frank Annoh-Dompreh (Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP)
  • Alhassan Tampuli (Gushegu MP)
  • Jerry Ahmed Shaib (Weija-Gbawe MP)

The clash between majority and minority members led to the destruction of furniture, microphones, and other equipment in the vetting chamber. The disturbances reportedly stemmed from disagreements over the vetting of Health Minister-designate Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Foreign Affairs Minister-designate Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

During a parliamentary session on Friday, January 31, 2025, Speaker Bagbin condemned the MPs’ conduct, calling it “disgraceful and deeply regrettable.” He stressed that parliamentary privilege does not cover disorderly behaviour and announced a two-week suspension for the four MPs.

To further probe the incident, a seven-member committee, chaired by Ho West MP Emmanuel Bedzrah, has been set up to investigate and recommend additional disciplinary measures.

In addition to their suspension, the MPs may face salary deductions to cover the cost of the damaged property.

“This House must acknowledge that it is rapidly eroding public confidence,” Bagbin warned, urging MPs to uphold discipline and decorum in parliamentary proceedings.

The suspension of Dafeamekpor, Annoh-Dompreh, Tampuli, and Ahmed Shaib signals a strong stance against misconduct and a renewed commitment to maintaining order in Parliament.
