The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has set up a five-member committee to review and improve the Axle Load Control Programme.
This initiative aims to enhance the efficiency of the system, which is designed to prevent road damage caused by overloaded trucks.
The committee includes representatives from National Security, Private Haulage Operators, the Ghana Highway Authority, the Ministry of Transport, and the Ghana Standards Authority. Their job is to identify problems within the program, investigate violations of axle load regulations, assess how fines are managed, and recommend reforms.

Overloaded trucks are a major cause of road deterioration and traffic accidents in Ghana. To address this, the Ministry is working on reforms to make the Axle Load Control Programme more effective.
In a statement, the ministry assured Ghanaians of its commitment to improving road safety and ensuring that roads last their full lifespan.
This initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen road infrastructure and enforce transport regulations.
