Ridge Hospital Assault: Ralph Must Apologise – Vanderpuye

The National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has called on social media personality Ralph Saint Williams, popularly known as Ralph De Fellow Ghanaian, to issue an unqualified apology for his alleged role in the recent Ridge Hospital assault.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Thursday, August 28, Vanderpuye described the incident as “unfortunate and unacceptable”, insisting that those responsible must face the consequences of their actions.

“Whatever happened was unfortunate, and the consequences must be faced by the people who were involved. I think the gentleman who did that should be dealt with because they have no right under any law to have done what they did.

“I am expecting them to immediately come out and render an unqualified apology and do what they have to do to fend off the repercussions of punishment or preliminary measures that have been taken against them,” he stressed.

His remarks come a day after a ministerial investigative committee, chaired by Dr Lawrence Ofori-Boadu, submitted its findings on the August 18 incident to Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.

The report revealed no medical evidence to support claims that rotation nurse Rejoice Tsotso Bortei suffered a shoulder dislocation during the altercation. Medical examinations confirmed she had no fractures or dislocations but was diagnosed with contusions, treated with pain relief, and given psychological support.

These findings contradicted earlier claims, which fuelled public outrage after viral footage showed heated exchanges between patient relatives and hospital staff at the Ridge Hospital Emergency Department.

Meanwhile, Ms Bortei has filed a civil lawsuit against Ralph Saint Williams, seeking GHS 7 million in damages for alleged physical assault and defamation.
