Richard Jakpa has been appointed as the Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, effective January 31, 2025.
His appointment comes amid increased scrutiny following his alleged involvement in a recent security operation at the residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
In his new role, Jakpa is responsible for overseeing covert and overt security operations across the country. His core duties include:

CCTV footage allegedly captured Jakpa leading a team of security operatives during an attempted arrest of the former finance minister. According to sources within National Security, the operation was conducted based on a valid arrest warrant issued for Ofori-Atta in connection with corruption and other criminal investigations.
The sources further claim that
- The security team did not force entry into Ofori-Atta’s residence.
- Access was granted after the warrant was presented to security personnel on duty.
- Ofori-Atta was not present at the time of the operation.
Jakpa’s appointment and his reported role in the controversial operation have sparked widespread debate, with many questioning:
