Refrain from Looting and Destruction of State Properties- Mahama to Supporters

President John Dramani Mahama has called on supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to desist from looting or destroying state properties, emphasising the importance of responsible behaviour to maintain public trust.

Addressing the National Muslim Prayer and Thanksgiving event at the National Mosque in Kanda, Accra, on January 10, President Mahama warned against actions that could tarnish the party’s image or erode the confidence of Ghanaians.

“I call on all our supporters and others engaged in illegal actions, such as looting goods and occupying government offices, to desist from such practices. We must do things differently to maintain the trust and confidence Ghanaians have placed in us,” he said.

President Mahama cautioned against repeating the mistakes attributed to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after their 2017 victory, actions he believes contributed to their loss of public trust.

“Many have said it’s the same thing the NPP did in 2017, and that is why Ghanaians voted them out. We must not copy their mistakes. I plead with you, let us do things in an orderly manner,” he urged.

The president assured party members that a full cabinet would be unveiled within 14 days and urged them to channel any grievances through the appropriate ministers once appointed.

“Government is being formed, ministers will be put in place, and other officials will be appointed. And as I said, we will have our full cabinet in 14 days. If you have any issues, you consult any of the ministers and have it resolved. So, exercise restraint,” President Mahama stated.

The President’s remarks follow reports of alleged destruction and looting of state properties by individuals believed to be affiliated with the NDC.
