Refrain From Kwahu Chieftaincy Dispute- Kwahu Residents to Politicians

Residents of Kwahu in the Eastern Region have appealed to the government and political actors to refrain from actions or comments that could heighten tensions surrounding the ongoing Kwahu chieftaincy dispute.

According to the residents, the matter remains a purely traditional issue and must be allowed to follow due customary and legal processes without political interference that could destabilise peace in the area.

The appeal follows recent developments in the long-running dispute over the Kwahu Paramount Stool. The royal family of the Kwahu Paramountcy had earlier distanced itself from the chieftaincy tussle involving the destooled Kwahuhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II (known in private life as Eugene Kwasi Boadi), and the subsequent purported installation of Baffour Akoto Osei as a new chief.

Meanwhile, the Judicial Committee of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs has ruled in favour of Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, granting an injunction restraining all respondents from interfering with his functions as Kwahuhene until the final determination of the case.

In a related development, the Kubease Royal Family, custodians of the Kwahu Paramount Stool, has publicly disassociated itself from the ongoing dispute. The family stated categorically that it has no affiliation with Eugene Kwasi Boadi, also known as Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, and has urged traditional authorities, opinion leaders, and the media to exclude their name from any discussions relating to the matter.

The family further stressed its commitment to peace and unity in Kwahuman and called on all parties involved to respect traditional authority and the rule of law.

Background

The Kwahu chieftaincy dispute has been ongoing for several years, marked by competing claims, court actions, and interventions by traditional councils. The matter has attracted national attention due to its impact on peace, governance, and development in the Kwahu Traditional Area.

Residents fear that political involvement in the dispute could inflame tensions and potentially lead to unrest. They are therefore urging all stakeholders, especially politicians and government officials, to remain neutral and allow the appropriate traditional and judicial institutions to resolve the matter amicably.
