Frederick Nyamekye, the assembly member for the Abonsuaso electoral area, described the situation as dire. “As a result of the heavy rain, a lot of people have lost the roofs of their buildings, and some sustained injuries, including children in schools,” he said.

Nyamekye stated that he has informed the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) coordinator and is working to escalate the matter to the municipal coordinating director. “We appeal to NGOs to come to our aid in addressing this sudden issue,” he added.

Antwi Ernest, the NADMO Zonal Coordinator for Tepa Abonsuaso, reported that his team is actively assessing the extent of the destruction and providing support to those affected.

“Around 7:30 last night, a heavy downpour caused significant destruction, leaving many people in the town without roofing sheets. So far, four individuals have sustained injuries, 28 houses have been affected, and almost 70 people are homeless,” Antwi said.

Relief efforts are underway to provide aid to the displaced residents as authorities continue to evaluate the full impact of the storm.
