Probe Sammy Gyamfi’s Dollar Handout to Nana Agradaa – Ex-Presidential Secretary

Ibrahim Adjei, a former Assistant Secretary at the Office of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has demanded a full-scale investigation into the conduct of Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, following a viral video showing him handing out foreign currency to evangelist and former fetish priestess Patricia Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.

The video, which captured Gyamfi giving an undisclosed amount of dollars to Agradaa, has sparked widespread outrage and prompted questions over transparency, ethics, and the appropriate use of public office.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Monday, May 12, Mr Adjei challenged Gyamfi’s credibility, citing the latter’s own past criticisms of unexplained wealth in public office.

“Sammy Gyamfi himself once said on TV3 that if you’re found in possession of money you cannot account for, which isn’t commensurate with your income, then you’re engaged in money laundering,” Adjei stated. “So, where did the money he was seen handing over in that video come from?”

He further questioned how much more might be occurring away from the public eye. “We are focused on what we saw in the video. What about the times when there are no cameras?” Adjei asked. “Let’s investigate where this generosity is coming from. What’s his salary? What land did he sell? He must account for it.”

Despite mounting criticism, Gyamfi on Sunday, May 11, issued a public apology, describing the act as a private gesture of kindness that had unintentionally entered the public domain.

“This was never meant to be a public spectacle,” Gyamfi explained. “It was a simple act of charity to someone in need.”

Nonetheless, the backlash persists. Sources at the Jubilee House confirm that the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has summoned Gyamfi to explain the context and source of the funds, especially in light of President John Dramani Mahama’s recently launched Code of Conduct for Public Officials, which emphasises integrity and accountability.

The incident continues to stir intense debate across political and civil society circles, with many demanding a clear and transparent explanation of the transaction’s origin and intent.
