President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in six new ministers following their approval by Parliament after a thorough vetting process.
The swearing-in ceremony, held on Friday, January 24, 2025, at the Jubilee House, marked a significant step in strengthening Ghana’s executive leadership to address critical national challenges.
In his address, President Mahama highlighted the pivotal roles these ministers are expected to play in achieving the country’s development goals.
He called for diligence, accountability, and innovation, urging them to collaborate effectively with stakeholders to ensure impactful service delivery.
The Newly Sworn-In Ministers and Their Portfolios:
- Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie – Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts
Renowned for her advocacy for cultural heritage and the arts, Madam Gomashie is tasked with revitalising Ghana’s tourism sector, showcasing the nation’s rich cultural diversity, and leveraging the creative arts for economic growth. - Mr. George Opare Addo – Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment
A vocal champion for youth opportunities, Mr. Opare Addo is focused on addressing youth unemployment, fostering entrepreneurship, and promoting skills development to empower the younger generation. - Madam Emelia Arthur – Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development
Dedicated to rural development, Madam Arthur will oversee sustainable fishing practices, expand aquaculture, and improve the livelihoods of fishing communities, all while ensuring food security. - Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim—Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs
With extensive governance experience, Mr. Ibrahim is expected to strengthen local governance systems, enhance collaboration with traditional authorities, and promote interfaith harmony to support grassroots development. - Madam Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare – Minister for Trade, Industry, and Agribusiness
A seasoned professional in law and policy, Madam Ofosu-Adjare will lead efforts to industrialise the economy, promote trade, and expand agribusiness opportunities, focusing on boosting exports and job creation. - Madam Agnes Naa Momo Lartey—Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection
An advocate for social welfare, Madam Lartey will promote gender equality, protect children’s rights, and implement policies to support Ghana’s most vulnerable populations.
President Mahama emphasised the importance of inclusivity, transparency, and stakeholder engagement. “Your work must reflect the aspirations of Ghanaians. You are entrusted with critical responsibilities, and I urge you to deliver with integrity and a sense of purpose,” he stated.
