President John Dramani Mahama has left Ghana for a two-nation official visit to Japan and Singapore, aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, boosting trade and investment, and advancing shared development goals under his administration’s Resetting Ghana agenda.

In Japan, the President will participate in the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX), where he is scheduled to deliver a keynote address on Promoting Trade and Investment during a plenary session. He will also headline the Ghana Presidential Investment Forum, highlighting Ghana’s economic potential to Japanese investors.

President Mahama is expected to hold high-profile bilateral talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, senior officials of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO). The President’s itinerary will then shift to Singapore for a three-day state visit, where he will meet President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. Key engagements will include participation in the Africa-Singapore Business Forum and an investment-focused address designed to promote Ghana’s reforms and private-sector opportunities.

According to a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President, the visit underscores Ghana’s commitment to international partnerships.

“These visits seek to attract investment, broaden market access for Ghanaian goods and services, and mobilise technical and development cooperation,” the statement said.

The tour is expected to expand market access for Ghanaian exports and attract investments in technology, finance, and human capital development, while also incorporating Ghanaian cultural promotion initiatives.

President Mahama and his delegation departed Accra on Sunday, August 17, 2025, with expectations high that the trip will yield tangible outcomes to boost Ghana’s economic prospects.
