President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mr. Abraham Amaliba as the acting Director-General of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA).
The appointment, effective January 23, 2025, was made in line with Article 195(1) of the Constitution and Section 13(2) of the National Road Safety Authority Act, 2019 (Act 993). It is pending the required advice from the NRSA’s governing board, in consultation with the Public Services Commission.
Mr. Amaliba, who currently serves as the Director of Conflict Resolution for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been formally notified of the appointment. He has been requested to confirm his acceptance within 14 days.
In a statement signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, the President expressed his confidence in Mr. Amaliba’s ability to lead the NRSA and extended his congratulations and best wishes for success in the new role.
This appointment is seen as a significant move in reinforcing the government’s commitment to road safety and ensuring the effective management of the authority’s mandate.
The announcement has been communicated to key stakeholders, including the Vice President, the Chief of Staff, the Minister of Transport, the Board Chairman of the NRSA, and the Chairperson of the Public Services Commission.
Mr. Amaliba’s leadership is expected to bring renewed focus to addressing road safety challenges in Ghana, enhancing public education, and improving road infrastructure management to safeguard lives.
