Speaking to the press during a visit to the hospital, Dr Ama Afriyie, the medical officer in charge of the emergency ward, confirmed the devastating development and gave a situational report on the other crash victims.

“Two victims remain in critical condition, and we are preparing to transfer one to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua for more intensive care,” she said.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Awatey, visited the hospital to assess the situation and offer support. During her visit, she donated GHC 5,000 to assist with the victims’ immediate medical needs and pledged the Regional Coordinating Council’s (RCC) full support in covering treatment costs for those whose families are yet to be reached.

“We urge the medical staff to do everything within their capacity to save lives. The RCC will shoulder all initial costs until families can take over,” she assured.

The Amanase crash, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, has been described as one of the most harrowing in recent times. Emergency teams responded swiftly, but the scale of injuries and fatalities has raised fresh concerns about safety on one of Ghana’s busiest highways.

Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing, as many across the country continue to mourn the lives lost and pray for the recovery of the injured.
