The Accra Regional Police Command has rescued sixteen victims of human trafficking—twelve males and four females—believed to be nationals of Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso, in a targeted operation at Ngleshie Amanfro, a suburb of Accra.
The victims were discovered on July 24, 2025, after police received a complaint regarding the disappearance of a 17-year-old Ivorian national, Chaka Kante, who had gone missing for nine months. According to the complaint, Kante had been deported to Ghana under the guise of joining a football team but had not been seen or heard from since.
Acting swiftly, police investigators accompanied the complainant to Toptown, near Amanfro, where they discovered sixteen individuals living under questionable conditions in a residential building.

In a statement issued on July 30 and signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, the police confirmed that all 16 individuals, including the missing Chaka Kante, were successfully rescued and are in safe custody.
Lured with False Promises
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victims were recruited in their home countries by individuals linked to a shadowy network allegedly affiliated with a company known as Q-Net. The suspects reportedly lured the victims to Ghana under false promises of securing lucrative jobs in Europe.
The identities of the rescued victims have since been released:
Ivorian nationals:
- Denbele Mohammed, 20
- Sawadu Razak, 20
- Olivier Yasei, 19
- Wilfred Kwako, 18
- Philbe Kwame, 25

- Abass Jeril, 19
- Wadrago Alice, 22
- Nyamego Winkode, 22

Police say all rescued individuals are currently receiving shelter and care, and arrangements are underway for their transfer to the Ghana Immigration Service for profiling and eventual repatriation, in line with immigration procedures.
Search for Perpetrators Intensifies
Law enforcement authorities have launched a manhunt to apprehend the suspected recruiters and trafficking operatives behind the scheme. Investigators are focusing on identifying the key players associated with the alleged Q-Net operation and dismantling the broader trafficking network.
The police have urged the public to be vigilant against fraudulent travel and employment offers, especially those targeting youth with promises of overseas opportunities.
“The Command cautions parents and guardians to scrutinise travel and recruitment arrangements that appear too good to be true,” the statement warned. “We also urge anyone with credible information about the recruiters or their operations to report to the nearest police station immediately.”
The rescue comes amid growing concern over human trafficking networks operating in West Africa, many of which exploit economic hardship and desperation among young people seeking better opportunities abroad.
